Our Story

Scribbles and Giggles opened in 1992 and became the 1st licensed pediatric day health center in California.  It was inspired by it's founders, Michael Zarcone, MS, PhD and Connie Rolfe, RN, who recognized a crucial service gap in the care of children who are medically fragile.  Through their work with children with ventilator and tracheostomy dependencies at Sub-Acute Saratoga Children's Hospital, they realized that once children were stable and able to return home, they often remained hospitalized due to shortages with in-home nursing.  Many parents were unable to remain home all day; they needed to work and/or attend school.

Consequently, the founders envisioned a place where children could receive nursing care within a daycare setting.  Often children who receive nursing care at home miss out on opportunities to participate in activities and socialize with other children.  Scribbles and Giggles meshes comprehensive nursing care with invaluable childhood experiences to play and socialize.

Since its inception, Scribbles and Giggles has expanded with the addition of early intervention, therapy, and many other essential programs for ANY child with special needs.
